Seamwork Camden Cape

IMG_5415

Hello! I’m so excited to share one of my recent makes. I made the Camden from Seamwork magazine. It’s a pretty simple cape with a button down front and two slits for armholes. I never thought of making outerwear before. I think it seemed too intimidating but I’m glad I gave this a try. The pattern was very easy to follow. The only point I had an issue was when I went to sew the buttonholes… it was too thick to use my machine foot. I ended up stitching two rows of a very fine zigzag on my machine and bound the ends by hand. It worked!

I found this vintage fabric at a rummage sale a few years ago. I was holding onto it for the perfect project. I just love the rusty  color of it. I had planned on lining it in a fun pattern but I couldn’t find anything I was excited about at JoAnns. I could have waited, but it’s getting cold and I was worried I wouldn’t be able to wear it this year if I didn’t make it when I did.

Have you ever made outerwear? I would love to see!
